Wildewood Update & Meeting Notice
Hello Wildewood and Greetings from the 2019-2020 Board of Directors.
Annual Membership Meeting Notice: Saturday, July 18 at NOON at the Community Center
The annual membership meeting will be held Saturday, July 18 at Noon. For COVID safety reasons, given the number of high-risk individuals in our community, NO potluck lunch will be held. We will practice social distancing at the meeting. You may sit with your family group but please maintain distance from other groups. Masks are not required but are recommended.
You will receive your ballots by mail shortly and may vote by mail if you prefer. Regardless of how you vote, please do vote. We need everyone’s participation!
Pool is Open!
Pool re-opened on Saturday May 30! Reminder, 2019 pool key fobs will not work this year. If you did not pick up your key fob earlier, please email wildewoodboard@gmail.com to arrange a time to pick up your key.
Cleanup Day – Huge Success!
Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped and those of you who brought your items to be disposed of. Special thanks to Piney Woods Sanitation who provided the dumpster at a discount rate and then managed to get us a second dumpster during the clean up after we filled up the first one. Great job Wildewood! We had over 50 cubic yards of everything you can imagine removed from the neighborhood as well as 3 pickup loads of scrap metal to be recycled.
Neighbors in Need
Wildewood had two heart-rending incidents in the last two weeks.
A Wildewood resident riding a motorcycle was hit by a trash truck (more on that below) and was very seriously injured. He is still in ICU and is now reported to be conscious but has a very long road to recovery. If you would like to help him and his family with medical bills, he has a GoFundMe page organized by his grandmother. https://www.gofundme.com/f/jxpr8-hope-for-jay
Another Wildewood resident had a house fire. Fortunately, the family was able to safely leave the house. If you would like to help, her sister has started a GoFundMe page for her as well. https://www.gofundme.com/f/dallas-amp-jaydens-fire-recovery-fund
If you choose to donate, please be sure to use the links above. There are a large number of similarly named campaigns on GoFundMe and we have verified with the families that these are the correct links.
Trash Service
A number of property owners have asked if Wildewood Owners Association (WOA) can ban the Veasey trash service from Wildewood because of his safety record. In July of last year, he had a fatal accident in Wildewood and on June 1 this year, he failed to yield right of way and hit a motorcyclist who was critically injured.
Some POA’s own their streets and some include trash service in the maintenance fees. In those cases, the POA can determine who is allowed to provide services, however neither of those conditions is true in Wildewood. Our streets are public streets owned and maintained by the county and the agreements to have trash service are between the individual and the company providing the service.
If Wildewood residents want to keep Mr. Veasey off our streets, the best action that people can take is to contract with another trash service. There are several that provide services in Wildewood. Below is a list of services we are aware of, there may be others as well so please do not consider this list to be your only options. If you are interested in service, please call and ask about discounts, some have discounts for seniors or autopay or other options.
